The Key to Weight Loss That Most of Us Overlook

What's the biggest barrier to weight loss? If you cited a lack of exercise or an unhealthy diet, you're not alone. You're also wrong.

Psychological factors are the key when it comes to dropping pounds. Experts say we've got it all backward and without working out our emotional relationship with food and fitness, we'll never see results.

Most people focus almost entirely on the physical aspects of weight loss, like diet and exercise. But there is an emotional component to food that the vast majority of people simply overlook, and it can quickly sabotage their efforts.

The key is figuring out when we eat to regulate emotions, so we can consciously uncouple from our go-to comfort foods. If we're aware of it or not, we are conditioned to use food not only for nourishment, but for comfort. In order to lose weight and keep it off long term, we need to do more than just think about what we eat; we also need to understand why we're eating.

Keeping a food diary where you also jot down your emotions can help. But you don't even have to be that intense: just focus on the healthy food you actually enjoy and cut down the carbs as well as sugars.

Also, try Ballet Body Sculpture class that will make your body to change very rapidly, having fun with our unique exercises, so you can forget to focus on your weight but enjoy the tighter shapes, more elegant posture and most importantly gain confidence that will allow you to look great at all times!

3 Ballet Exercises To Help You Shape Up This Autumn

Autumn is here, and ballet can help you stay in shape. If you’re desperate to flaunt your new outfits but you want to trim up, these three exercises will help you reach your goals.

1. Pliés

Got saddlebags? Pliés are a foolproof way to stronger, leaner, butt and legs. Like fancy lunges, they work your gluteals and quadriceps, helping to tighten your thighs and those stubborn areas around your backside. Not a Tchaikovsky fan? Blast some Beyoncé while you tone your tush. Practice 8 sets of 8 in first position, and take it slow. The slower you go, the more you engage and strengthen your muscles. Want more of a challenge? Practice 8 sets of 8, in all positions, first through fifth. The summer sun won’t be the only thing burning!

2. Relevés

If you would like more defined calves, practice heel raises, or relevés. Standing with feet parallel, or in first position, lift your heels off the floor, rise to the balls of your feet, and hold for one count. Lower your heels down to the floor. Again, repeat 8 sets of 8. If your legs start to cramp, shake them out and take a minute to stretch your calves and achilles tendons. Want more of a challenge? Place one foot behind the other in coupé, and rise up on one foot! When practicing relevés, maintain good posture by staying on top of your hips, and keeping your knees straight. This will encourage proper alignment and decrease risk of injury.

3. Port-de-bras

So, you say the only muffin top you want has blueberries? Practice some crunches, ballerina-style: Sit on the floor in straddle. This means your legs are open in the letter V. Lean your body to each side, reaching for your foot. Want more of a challenge? With your hands behind your ears and your elbows outstretched, lower your upper body until your right elbow touches your right knee. Don’t allow your spine to twist and your midsection to fold inward. Activating your core, lift your body upright and repeat to the left. This exercise targets your oblique abdominals, slimming your waistline and helping you firm up. Practice 8 sets of 8.

If used correctly and consistently, ballet technique, in combination with a healthy diet, can help you create a leaner, stronger body.

But most importantly, if you want to see good results, exercise needs to be persistent! 2-3 times a week for about 60-90min or 15-30min daily.

See you in our studios! Or online! :)

You gain confidence and grow stronger by every experience in which you really push yourself to do something you didn't think you could do. - See you by the barre!www.balletbodysculpture.com

No More Low Back Pain

More than 80% of the adult population suffer from low back pain at some time in their life. It is one of the most common reasons why people take time off work, and may be distressing and frustrating as quality of life often suffers.

Yet gentle, effective exercise, delivered by a properly trained exercise professional, can often help with the prevention and management of low back pain. This was underlined by the publication by NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) in 2009 of medical guidelines recommending that people with persistent non-specific low back pain should be encouraged to stay physically active and exercise.

Good Back Care
It is important to keep your back fit and healthy. This does not only put you in the best position to prevent back pain, but also enables you to control back pain when it strikes.

Staying active

  • It is important to keep your back fit and healthy by staying active and participating in regular physical activity. There is no need to run a marathon or become a fitness fanatic to achieve this; small changes to your life style can make a real difference.
Looking after your posture
  • Your spine is a very flexible and strong structure that can cope with many of the stresses in daily life.
  • Your spine is a ‘S’ shape and it is important to keep this natural curve of your back when sitting. Good chairs follow this natural curve of the back.
  • When kneeling, bend from the knees and not from the back, especially when you are having to lift something at the same time.
Keeping your back flexible
  • Flexibility is one of the key characteristics of your back. To improve or maintain the flexibility in your back you can do mobilising exercises. You will feel that is especially important to do this after you have been in one position for a long period of time.
  • Besides doing some mobilising exercises at home, you can also take part in a structured exercise classes that focus on balancing mobilisation with stabilisation like Ballet Body Sculpture classes.
Lifting
  • Lifting heavy or awkwardly shaped items can be a risk factor for back pain, especially when you have to lift repetitively. To reduce the chances of lifting giving you a back injury, you should use manual handling aids and the correct technique.
Healthy eating and drinking
  • A healthy diet and drinking sufficient water is important for everyone, including people with back pain. It has been suggested that drinking sufficient water is important to keep the intervertebral discs hydrated.

Body Language & Elegant Posture

Body language can have an amazing impact on any situation in your life.
#Great posture helps keep the body strong and upright. It protects the back, helps #strengthen the center, and speaks volumes about your #confidence level and #health. Remember what they say about first impressions? #Good posture can help you give a great one! Poor posture on the other hand can read as weak, uninterested, or that you are uncomfortable in your own skin. In #professional settings where the pressure is really on, like in an interview, pitch or presentation, having good posture is key!
If #posture is something that you struggle with, don’t worry. Anyone can build #beautiful posture through simple #exercises and work on creating better habits. Take a moment now and sit up, pull in with the stomach, and lift and open through the chest. Now pull back with the shoulders and lift the head slightly. This is what great posture feels like! The muscles in the back, shoulders, ribs and center are all engaging. Aim for this position in your workouts, especially in my standing cardio work, and hopefully, in your next big moment in the spotlight to project Ballet Body Sculpture posture, strength & confidence!

Want To Be Fit & Look Elegant - Why Not To Try Ballet

http://www.balletbodysculpture.com

As a former principle ballet dancer, I know many ballet steps for toned muscles and a great posture. While most people think of ballet as a pretty art form, it actually requires a great deal of strength. In fact, you might be surprised how much strength is actually required to perform a fairly simple step. Because you do need so much strength to do ballet, there are many ballet steps for toned muscles that will not just make your whole body fitter and more flexible but also will develop the grace, elegance as well as confidence.

1. PLIÉ

Pliés are one of the many ballet steps for toned muscles that you can do just about anywhere. All you need is a counter or a chair to hold onto. To do a plié in first position, put your heels together and turn your feet out. Then bend your knees, making sure your knees don’t roll forward and your butt doesn’t stick out. Keep your back straight and stomach pulled in. By doing pliés you will tone your inner thighs and butt, which are often difficult areas to tone.

2. TENDU

Performing tendus is another ballet step that will help you tone your inner thighs. They will also strengthen your abdominal muscles and feet! To perform a tendu from first position, stand in the same position you were in for pliés. Keep you knee straight and brush your leg out to the side pointing the toes at the end. Then, bring your leg back in, your knee stays straight . You want to keep your feet on the floor and come to the same position that is pictured.

3. À LA SECONDE

À la seconde is one of the easiest ballet steps you can do to strengthen your arms. It doesn’t even require any movement. Simply stand with your arms held out to the side and round your elbow slightly so your palms face in. Keep the shudder plates down, back straight and chest open. Then hold this position until your arms get tired. You will find doing this strengthens your shoulders and back as well.

4. PORT DE BRAS FORWARD

Port de bras forward is a step that will strengthen your core muscles. All you have to do is hold onto a counter or chair while standing in first position. Then, extend your arm to the side and bend forward from the waist with a straight back and go down as far as you can. Bring you arm up at the bottom and open to the side again she you come up. When you come back up, keep your back straight as well. You should feel your
core muscles working.

5. RELEVÉ

Relevé is a great step in ballet for toning your inner thighs, butt, and strengthening your calves. To do a relevé, stand in first position and press up onto the balls of your feet. Then, lower back down. Keep you knees straight and push you heels slightly forward when you rise and come down to work your inner tights. By repeating this step 20 to 30 times in a row you will feel your muscles burn!

6. FONDU

A fondu is basically a plié and is done on one leg. Because it is done on one leg, a fondu is much more difficult than a plié but it also strengthens the muscles more. Bend and stretch both knees together, when you stretch open one leg to the side. Keep your knees both open to the sides, back straight and stomach pulled in. To get the most benefit of this step, repeat it until your leg becomes tired, then switch to the next leg.

7. SAUTÉ

If you like to jump, you will enjoy doing sautés. Sautés are basic jumps done in ballet, and they can be done in any of the ballet positions. However, you can get all of the benefit by doing them in first position, which you already know. All you have to do is bend your knees and jump, making sure your feet are pointed in the air and heels are down when you land. Sautés will strengthen your core muscles, your legs, and your feet.

All of these ballet steps can be done just about anywhere, and they will all tone and strengthen your muscles. Doing these steps often will help you achieve the toned #muscles you desire, and they will give you something different to do besides go to the gym. Have you ever considered doing ballet to get in better shape?

7 Business Body Language Tricks To Advance Your Career

Because your #posture, your facial expressions and other physical movements play an important role in an individual’s success, here are a few business body language tricks that will help you reach your goals. If you want to advance in your career, then you need to pay attention to your body language too. It can say a lot about you as a professional, positioning and movements work together to communicate specific attributes about an individual. By using facial expressions, #movements and positioning, you can project positive qualities such as assertiveness, confidence, empathy, interest, openness to collaboration and intelligence. By using a few clever body language techniques, you can communicate these qualities and you can raise yourself in the esteem of influential parties without speaking a word. Here are 7 business body language tricks hat help advance your career:

1. MAINTAIN EYE CONTACT

One of the most important business body language tricks that will help you advance in your career is maintaining eye contact with your interlocutors and engaging in active listening more often. This way, you show other individuals that you respect them and that you are interested in what they are saying. Keep consistent eye contact with your colleagues when they speak, nod occasionally and they will feel interesting and important.

2. KEEP PALMS   FACING DOWN
Even though the people around you may not recognize this subtle move, it will actually help you shape their opinions of you. A lot of studies have shown that when individuals place both of their hands palms down on podiums, tables or desks when speaking to others, it projects a sense of leadership and authority.

3. REMOVE POSSIBLE BARRIERS
Try to keep your body language open and remove any possible barriers because most people tend to take emotional cues from their conversation partners. So, don’t cross your arms and don’t slouch, because you will appear “closed off” to others. Keep your arms at your sides to show the individuals you interact that you are open. Also, try to avoid being separated by your interlocutor by large items such as tables.

4. SMILE SINCERELY
When you talk to your boss or to one of your colleagues, try to smile sincerely. When you approach an individual, try to imagine greeting an old friend and a genuine smile will emerge on your face. A sincere smile communicates a sense of warmth, which will encourage others to open up.

5. MINIMIZE MOVEMENTS
When you talk to your boss or to one of your co-workers, try to avoid scratching, squirming, twitching or wiggling because you will seem nervous and tense. Also, avoid gesticulating widely when you talk to another individual because this could distract your interlocutor from important points, so try to incorporate natural, subtly controlled movements that will mirror the body language of your interlocutor.

6. DEVELOP A STRONG HANDSHAKE
This simple act can take some work, so avoid extremes in handshakes. Aim for a brief, natural-feeling grasp if you want to communicate trust and respect and avoid an overly limp or excessively firm handshake.

7. STRIKE A WIDE STANCE

When you talk to your boss or to one of your co-workers, try to adopt a wide stance because it will expand your diaphragm and it will project your speaking voice more effectively. You will seem more influential and more impressive and you’ll make a good impression.

These body language techniques will help you reach your goals but you need to practice them, so you will develop body language habits that will help you in your career.

The Importance Of Body Language & Posture

Body language affects how others see us, but it may also change how we see ourselves. Social psychologist Amy Cuddy shows how “power posing” — standing in a #posture of confidence, even when we don’t feel confident — can affect testosterone and cortisol levels in the brain, and might even have an impact on our chances for success.

Why Green Tea ? - The Benefits That You Didn’t Know About

Green tea has been used as a medicine for thousands of years, originating in China but widely used throughout Asia this beverage has a multitude of uses from lowering blood pressure to preventing cancer. The reason that green tea has more health benefits attached to it than black tea is (apparently) due to the processing. Black tea is processed in a way that allows for fermentation whereas green tea’s processing avoids the fermentation process. As a result, green tea retains maximum amount of antioxidants and poly-phenols the substances that give green tea its many benefits.
Here’s a list of some of its amazing benefits — benefits that you may not have been aware of. Some of these benefits are still being debated, so please do your own research if you want to use green tea for medicinal purposes.
  • Weight Loss. Green tea increases the metabolism. The polyphenol found in green tea works to intensify levels of fat oxidation and the rate at which your body turns food into calories.
  • Diabetes. Green tea apparently helps regulate glucose levels slowing the rise of blood sugar after eating. This can prevent high insulin spikes and resulting fat storage.
  • Heart Disease. Scientists think, green tea works on the lining of blood vessels, helping keep them stay relaxed and better able to withstand changes in blood pressure. It may also protect against the formation of clots, which are the primary cause of heart attacks.
  • Esophageal Cancer. It can reduce the risk of esophageal cancer, but it is also widely thought to kill cancer cells in general without damaging the healthy tissue around them.
  • Cholesterol. Green tea reduces bad cholesterol in the blood and improves the ratio of good cholesterol to bad cholesterol.
  • Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. It is said to delay the deterioration caused by Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Studies carried out on mice showed that green tea protected brain cells from dying and restored damaged brain cells.
  • Tooth Decay. Studies suggests that the chemical antioxidant “catechin” in tea can destroy bacteria and viruses that cause throat infections, dental caries and other dental conditions
  • Blood Pressure. Regular consumption of green tea is thought to reduce the risk of high blood pressure.
  • Depression. Theanine is an amino acid naturally found in tea leaves. It is this substance that is thought to provide a relaxing and tranquilizing effect and be a great benefit to tea drinkers.
  • Anti-viral and Anti-bacterial. Tea catechins are strong antibacterial and antiviral agents which make them effective for treating everything from influenza to cancer. In some studies green tea has been shown to inhibit the spread of many diseases.
  • Skincare. Green tea can apparently also help with wrinkles and the signs of aging, This is because of their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Both animal and human studies have demonstrated that green tea applied topically can reduce sun damage.

How Much?

These are some of the many benefits but the reality is one cup of tea a day will not give you all the abundant gains. The jury is out on how many cups are necessary; some say as little as two cups a day while others five cups — and more still say you can drink up to ten cups a day. If you are thinking of going down this route, you may want to consider taking a green tea supplement instead (it would keep you out of the bathroom).
Another thing to point out is that there is caffeine in green tea — so if you are sensitive to caffeine then one cup should be your limit. Green tea also contains tannins (which can decrease the absorption of iron and folic acid), so if you are pregnant or trying to conceive then green tea may not be ideal for you. You can try mixing green tea with other healthy ingredients such as ginger.
For the rest of us with all these abundant benefits…it’s a wonder we drink anything else:)

The Best Anti-Aging - Dance - To Keep Yourself Young & Healthy

Jogging and going to the gym often lose their appeal as we age. Few would argue that dancing is much more enjoyable. What’s more, it can benefit the heart, lungs, muscles as well as improving the joints and general well-being even more than cycling or that jogging session in the rain.
“As we age, the benefits of physical activity cannot be underestimated and dancing is a great way to keep healthy, have a great time and enjoy exercise” says Sam Turner of Policy Research Institute on Ageing and Ethnicity Charity.
Dancing and ballet is of course a great group activity, a fun way to meet those new life-friends that you haven’t met yet and a good way to boost self-esteem confidence and memory. “The social, emotional and psychological benefits of dancing are important, especially for those people who are at the risk of becoming lonely or isolated” says Sam Turner.
Let’s all dance ourselves Young and Healthy

Heart, Health & Weight Control
Dancing can help lower your resting heart rate, your blood pressure and can even lower your cholesterol as well.
Depending on how quick or how energetically you move, dancing can give your heart and lungs a good cardiovascular workout with the added bonus of weight loss thrown in. In actual fact, dancing burns as many calories as swimming or cycling and with ballroom dancing 180 to 480 calories can be lost within an hour’s class - even if you jogged for an hour and burned off 430 calories it would never be half as much fun as if you danced them off.

Bone and Joint Health
As a weight-bearing exercise, dancing helps build, strengthen and maintain healthy bones.
The side-to-side movements of many dance steps strengthen the weight bearing areas of the body including those of the bones in the legs which helps to prevent the onset of osteoporosis in which the limbs become fragile, brittle and can easily break.
A research study by the University Of Maryland School Of Nursing found that dancing helps increase flexibility, co-ordination and the balance of any person, which researchers believe can lead to fewer falls in the mature adult.
Dancing may also help keep joints healthy, supple and mobile and because dancing is a low-impact exercise it doesn’t put strain or too much pressure on those difficult areas. In fact dancing is recommended for those who have had replacement bone and joint operations as a form of therapy, holistic treatment and after-care.

Mental & Emotional Health
When you learn a new dance, remembering the steps could help you keep your memory sharp, alert and active. Research studies have shown that through the use of dancing the likes of dementia prevention are highly expected.
A Study by the Eisenstein College of Medicine in New York followed 500 people aged 60+ who took part in a variety of activities including swimming, cycling, walking and dancing. Out of all the results gained from the study of these activities, researchers discovered that dancing was the only activity associated with a lower risk of mental deterioration. Meanwhile at the other side of the world, Greek scientists have found that dancing is makes a person more positive and with a great outlook on life; and a group of older women who took part in a Thessaloniki based study said that weekly dance classes helped increase their feelings of well-being, self-worth and newly found optimism.
Dancing has been proven to help you relax and take you mind off those troubling worries because of the amount of energy that your body uses during it’s dance sessions you will notice a more physically relaxed person after your class and will be able to sleep easily at night.

So let's get dancing, a bit of ballet & some exercise will keep you young and beautiful for longer. To join our group classes,  private training as well as online ballet video classes, please register via email at our website:

Exercising Ballet - A Treatment For Your Body

Most women through out their life spend many hours trying improve their look in some way. Looking after the skin, fashion, cosmetics or beauty salons, it all makes us feel more confident. Unfortunately exercising and looking after the physical part of the body is often pushed back, as it takes a lot more effort and willpower to get started. But the great thing is that physical exercise becomes very easily addictive to your mind & body, giving that wonderful feeling after a good workout

Why do you need exercise?
For younger people, exercise is often a bit of a stress buster, as you get older, it’s much more about staying mobile and supple so that you can continue doing all the things you enjoy. Keeping fit and enjoying your daily routines, travelling, gardening and dancing.

Is ballet workout class hard work?
It’s challenging but also great fun. It’s a 60-minute class that focuses on posture, mobility, balance and strength. It starts off with a warm-up, gradually increasing the pace. Some of the moves involve learning and remembering a sequence of dance steps, which also exercises the mind! Passive as well as active stretches maintain flexibility and strength. NLP exercises will secure what's learned, allowing fast and positive progress.

Is it intimidating?
Not at all. It’s very sociable. Exercising in a group is great for motivation, everyone is there for the same reason. It’s always welcoming and non-judgemental, don't be afraid to get it wrong! The social contact is just as important as the exercise.

How often do you need to exercise?
Well, it depends on what you would like to achieve. Just as much as your facial skin, your body needs attention daily. To achieve good results ballet workout class is advisable to exercise at least 3 times a week.

And lastly...
It’s not about being a skinny or having a model figure. It’s about feeling great. Exercise should make you happy,  bring positive moods, is more about how it makes you feel than how it makes you look. It can make a real difference to things like preventing falls by working on your balance and cheating osteoporosis through better bone density. Regular exercise is known to be beneficial for those with high blood pressure or late onset diabetes. Ballet exercise will help you get to know your body. You learn to recognise alarm bells, such as stress and fatigue. It gives you the tools to help you feel better through relaxation and good breathing techniques, enabling better sleep, avoiding injury and feeling in control of your health.

Simple Steps To Weight Loss

Need to shift the pounds? Here are the smart ways to torch fat:
If you're looking for lasting weight loss, then it's best achieved over a lengthy amount of time. But if a special occasion is calling for some fast fat loss, then make sure you're doing it safely and as effectively as possible with our top tips:
Exercise at low & high intensity
Periods during exercise should be short, keeping your heart rhythm going, so it never slows down neither becomes too fast, upping strength & weight loss. This a reason why ballet based workout became so popular helping to shape your body lines and creating that grace as well feeling of an uplift within. It recruits deep more muscle tissue, boosting the body's metabolism, builds for strength, flexibility as well as posture. So you start to look and feel better almost straight away.
Cut out refined carbs
Carbohydrates and starchy foods that have little to no fibre - such as pasta, rice and potatoes - will do nothing but sabotage your weight loss goals, not to mention your health. They create a massive spike in your blood sugar levels, causing the body to release insulin - a hormone that shuts off fat burn and encourages fat storage.
Get enough sleep
Sleep is important for a number of reasons, but especially when it comes to staying in shape. A lack of it will put your body under serious stress, and unfortunately, the stress hormone cortisol is also bad news for fat loss. It could also be the reason why you find it particularly tough to shift belly fat - it promotes the storage of fat in this pesky area especially.

Healthy Lifestyle - Discover the ways to be slimmer without dieting:)

Think yourself slim: imagine a slimmer you

Visualisation is the bedrock of hypnotherapy, retraining the brain to get rid of negative thoughts and images and replace them with the positive kind. The brain takes from 10 to 21 days to let go of an old belief and lock on to a new one, and it can help you slim.

It's not about imagining yourself as Cameron Diaz in a thong. It's all about repeating positive words and images - it takes practice but what the subconscious is told it accepts.

What's the trick?

The key is repeating positive visualisations for a number days.
Make a list of negative things you say and make them positive. "I will always be fat" changes to "I am changing my shape". Take time every day to visualise and repeat positive affirmations. "You can eat healthily and love it. You can be a dress size smaller. You can find ten minutes a day to exercise."

Every time you visualise, make the picture exciting, and increase the duration and intensity. Add positive words. The more you visualise the more you'll believe your visualisation is possible:)

In addition:

Find the kind of exercise you enjoy, that fits into your life and you won't be able to resist going back for more!
Try a variety of classes and whittle it down to your favourite you can see yourself going back
to regularly - then get stuck in and enjoy your progression!
